Finding the Balance Between Passion & Pay
All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy – and that’s more than just a popular saying or a line from Stephen King’s The Shining, it’s the truth. Life comes with a lot of stress weighing down, and you might feel like you’re carrying the world on your shoulders. Everyone wants to relax, but everyone has to work. This can cause a lot of this associated stress, and if you want to reduce this stress, you have to find a balance between passion and play.
Here’s how to balance things out and live a happier life.
Love Your Job
Do you love your job? It’s easy to lose motivation if you tell yourself that you hate your job every day. Even if you don’t love what you do, you can use your day job to kick-start your passion – or you can find small things in your job that you enjoy and set new goals for yourself. This can teach you to love your job, and it’s a great way to motivate yourself to perform great at work – and be happier at home.
Avoiding the Daily Slump
During the average work day, everyone hits their “slump.” For some people, this hits at ten o’ clock in the morning, for other people it only hits them at three in the afternoon – but it happens to everyone. It’s your body and mind telling you to slow down and take a break: Often it helps to find a distraction for five minutes, and it helps to follow the right diet – the right snack at the right time can help crush the daily slump,
“I don’t have time to relax.” If you had a dollar for every time you’ve heard or said that, how much cash would you have in the bank? You can always find time to do something that helps you relax – even if it’s only for as little as ten or twenty minutes a day, doing what you absolutely love gives your brain a chance to reset and your body a chance to relax. This is vital, and it can help you to avoid burnout.
Schedule time for activities you enjoy – at least once a week, you need a proper winding down.
Being happy and keeping your mind fresh is also down to doing new things. Take up a new hobby every once in a while and do something that you’ve always wanted to do. New hobbies can help to refresh your mind, and they also give you something worthwhile to look forward to.
Work for Something
Speaking of things to look forward to, you should set small life goals for yourself – and ensure that you start saving money for these goals as soon as you can. This gives you something to look back on, and something to look forward to, and it ensures that you are never bored at work. If you feel your motivation slipping, remind yourself that you’re working fir something – and that your goal is a little more attainable every day.
Meet Your Quota
If you want to balance your work and home life, ensure that you manage to meet your quota at work – and in some jobs, it helps to exceed that quota to free up some more time to do the things you love.
